My biography

 My name is Lindy Oller. I am a former journalist from Georgia. I worked as a reporter for the Opelika-Auburn News in Auburn, Alabama. I received a Bachelor of Science  degree in Mass Communications from the University of West Georgia. I am currently working on getting my Master of Science degree in Strategic Communications from Troy University. 

In this blog, I will focus on strategic communications and emerging media. The topics I will discuss include diffusion of innovations, interpersonal influence,  opinion leadership and diffusion of  innovations, social media and opinion   leadership, leadership and communication within internal, external and government groups, developing a strategic communication strategy that supports a vision, leadership in message development and placement, leadership media strategies  regarding crisis and change, measuring success in strategic communication leadership and the future of strategic communication.

  One of the most memorable movie quotes comes from Ron Howard’s 1995 movie Apollo 13 . Jim Lovell, a character played by Tom Hanks, called Mission Control at the Manned Spacecraft Center, which is now the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas to say “Houston, we have a problem.” Lovell reported an issue that involved a series of problems that the center worked to address. Social Media's Impact on Brand Reputation

  In college, I realized the importance of having a personal brand on social media. My personal brand showcases my creativity through writing and multimedia. Job seekers can use an online personal brand to display to potential employers how their skills and qualities set them apart from other candidates. Businesses establish online brands to showcase their products and services to their target audience. To stand out from the competition, strategic communicators must produce online messages that create an impact and start conversations that can build relationships with clients. Social media has the capability to bolster or damage a company’s brand. When a company suffers backlash from a post on its social media page, then its trust with its customers is damaged. Lollipop Moments

  Before I decided to pursue a Master of Science degree in Strategic Communications, I did not think of myself as a leader. I thought that I had to be a manager or an editor in order to be a leader. But then I watched Drew Dudley’s 2010 TED Talk for this class. Dudley spoke about everyday leadership and how we all have been the catalyst for what he calls a ‘lollipop moment.’ We create lollipop moments by making a difference in the lives of the people around us. I did not give myself credit for the leadership moments I have had helping people. I thought being a leader was something I could not achieve. But it turns out I have been a leader all along.    Being a leader is not an impossible role that only a few privileged people can fulfill. We can all be leaders in our everyday life.
